Tonight we took the kids to the mall for a quick dinner and to do a few quick errands. This was our first time walking the entire mall without a stroller. After we ate, we walked towards the big stores. John asked “Can we go on the elevator?” I suggested that we take the escalator so that Gillian could ride it for the first time. John immediately said “Yes! Gill, you dot have to walk. It moves you upstairs.” He ran to the escalator and jumped on “Gill watch me!” I held her hand and we took our time. She didn’t hesitate and stepped on quickly. She giggled and laughed and loved her first ride. I can remember John’s first ride on an escalator. He hesitated. He put a foot out and pulled it back. I think he was afraid of it. Not my girl. We went in and out of a bunch of stores and every time we went into a store John would say “Can we go up more? Can we go down more?” We rode a lot of escalators tonight, but no ride was as exciting as Gillian’s first ride on an escalator.
