Tonight I dried Gillian after her bath and she asked “Where’s the yellow towel?” I told her, “John used it.” She giggled and said “You gave him a girl towel.” I asked her “Why is it a girl towel?” She said “Cause yellow is a girl color.” I hate this logic. So I said “There are no boy colors or girl colors. Just colors.” She didn’t agree with me and said “Pink is a girl color.” I said “No. Do you know who’s favorite color is pink?” She said “Me!” I continued and said “No. One of your Uncles likes pink.” Gillian said “Uncle Joe.” I said “Exactly. Is Uncle Joe a boy or a girl?” She said “A boy.” I said “See, it’s not a boy color or a girl color. It’s an everyone color.” I couldn’t just leave it there. So I asked “Who likes blue?” Gillian said “John. And me too.” I said “That’s right. It’s not a boy color or a girl color. It’s a what color?” She didn’t answer right away. I answered and said “It’s an everyone color.” She said “I was going to say it’s a family color.” I’ll take it. Hopefully she gets it.
