The book

John’s class has been reading “Little House on the Prairie” since December. John has a very hard time remembering to bring this book home to do the required reading. In December, he forgot the book and we were able to borrow a copy from the library. During winter break, we returned the book we borrowed.

Tonight John had to read chapter 11 of “Little House on the Prairie” for homework. I asked him “Did you bring home your book?” He smacked his head and we put our coats on and headed to the library. At the library, we discovered that someone else had already checked out their copy. So we headed to Barnes & Noble. In the car I said “We are only buying one book.” It took some time to find “Little House on the Prairie.” When I found it John asked “How much is it?” I said “Don’t worry John. I’ll buy the book.” He said “It’s my fault that we are here. I’ll buy the book.” I tried to argue with him,  but he wasn’t caving. He pulled his wallet out of his pocket and headed to the register.

When we got home, he apologized for forgetting his book at school and read his chapter.
